“Monkey Man” is set in a semi-fictionalized Mumbai, replete with homelessness, crime and swooping, askew camera angles. Action movies — even relatively gritty ones without fanciful superhero CGI — require a bigger outlay for location and stunts. “Monkey Man” was plagued by production difficulties and financial struggles. Mindless s**t. I wanted to give it soul.” That’s an admirable sentiment — and one that isn’t just restricted to action movies. “Monkey Man” growls and spits and beats its chest and leaps you’re never quite sure where.

Henry Cavill has weighed in on the debate surrounding the use of sex scenes in film and TV. I'm not a fan," Cavill said, agreeing with Vaughn, who said he "can't get my head around sex scenes." The " Witcher " actor said there are occasions where he thinks sex scenes are "beneficial" to a film's narrative, "but I think sometimes they're overused these days." "It's when you have a sense where you're going, 'Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?'" Explaining the online resistance to sex scenes, some have pointed to the fact that younger generations, millennials and Gen Zers, have different attitudes than older audiences.

CNN —“Superman” star Henry Cavill has revealed that he’s “not a fan” of on-screen sex scenes. The British actor, who stars in newly released movie “Argylle,” suggested graphic love scenes can sometimes feel gratuitous. Appearing on the podcast “Happy Sad Confused” on Monday, Cavill said he felt that intimate scenes are sometimes “overused”. He said: “Sex scenes can be great in a movie, they can really help with the storytelling, but most of the time the human imagination is going to trump it. “Argylle,” which CNN reviewer Brian Lowry described as a “fun, highly stylized” spy thriller, was released February 2 in the United Kingdom and United States.

One question we might have asked ourselves was whether “North Country” would become a genuine ghost story or a hybrid, blending the noir sleuthing of previous “True Detective” seasons with mere intimations of the supernatural. This second hour throws a little bit of ice-cold water on the weird stuff, at least insofar as it pertains to the deaths of these scientists and the unsolved murder of Annie, a young Inupiaq activist. When Navarro asks Rose about Travis, an ex-lover who turns up to her as a spirit, it is blithely accepted that such ghosts can appear in the darkness from time to time. As for the case itself, there’s a lot of strong, meat-and-potatoes procedural work in this episode that suggests it can be solved. The show no longer seems in danger of drifting into the inexplicable.

New York CNN —Investors have much on their minds these days, but there’s one thing seemingly staying under the radar. The Israel-Hamas war, which began in early October, initially rattled global financial markets, sending stocks tumbling, the Israeli shekel sliding and oil prices climbing. Potential escalation, potential impactNow, markets are looking decidedly less bright. Wall Street hasn’t completely shrugged off the potential impacts on financial markets from the Israel-Hamas war. His firm increased its allocation to longer-term government bonds this week to lock in currently high yields before potential declines down the line.

TORONTO (AP) — Think of movies about the financial system and your mind is almost sure to go to Gordon Gekko and “Wall Street” or Leonardo DiCaprio’s gyrating Jordan Belfort in “The Wolf of Wall Street.”When Hollywood takes on Wall Street, it usually heads straight to the C-suite. In 2021, Gill’s enthusiastic endorsement of GameStop stock helped fuel a viral trading frenzy that rocked Wall Street and humbled the hedge funds that has shorted the brick-and-mortar video game company. Gillespie was able to follow the phenomenon thanks to his 24-year-old son, who had been involved with the subreddit Wall Street Bets. My son warned me: You got in too late.”Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, two former Wall Street Journal reporters turned screenwriters, came on to write the script. They feel small, they feel powerless, they feel that the system is rigged,” says Angelo.

Mark Stewart, Fiery British Rocker, Is Dead at 62

Mark Stewart, the incendiary frontman of the British post-punk band the Pop Group, whose explosive mix of funk, noise rock, free jazz experimentalism and anti-authoritarian rage made a mockery of the group’s sunny name, died on April 21. The Pop Group emerged in Bristol, England, in 1977, as punk rock was shaking the foundations of the British music scene. Mr. Stewart found inspiration in punk’s iconoclastic fury. “There is the arrogance of power,” he once said, “and what we got from punk was the power of arrogance.”Onstage, the band created a cyclone force that put many punk bands to shame. The lyrics include these lines:We are all prostitutesEveryone has their priceEveryoneAnd you too will have to learn to live the lie
The minutes followed a cooler-than-expected inflation report which belied stickier underlying data and cemented the likelihood of another policy rate hike when the Fed convenes next month. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid"(Economic) data has been very mixed so investors are overacting to any positive or negative hint of Fed rate hike policy. Morning Bid: Swiss lifeline, ECB dilemma

The Swiss lender said it would exercise an option to borrow from its central bank up to 50 billion Swiss francs ($54 billion). That followed assurances from Swiss authorities on Wednesday the country's second largest bank met "the capital and liquidity requirements imposed on systemically important banks". Policymakers and regulators across Europe and Asia rushed to reassure the public and markets that banks in their jurisdictions were safe and well-capitalised. Like other central banks, the ECB has been raising interest rates rapidly to curb inflation and has since July tightened credit at its fastest pace on record. As it stands, money markets now price an 80% chance the ECB will move tentatively and only hike by a quarter point to 2.75%.
Morning Bid: Deep breaths as banks calm, but only a bit

The Federal Reserve is considering tougher rules and oversight for midsize banks similar in size to Silicon Valley Bank, which collapsed suddenly last week. Strengthened rules on banks in the $100 billion to $250 billion range could ape those for larger more systemic banks and involve stringent capital and liquidity requirements or beefed up annual "stress tests". Even though reports abounded of depositor flight from the smaller weaker banks to the larger financial firms, stock prices in the sector at large caught a breath. The VIX equity volatility gauge (.VIX) hugged Tuesday's close at 23. The sight of a new generation encouraged Mr. Joseph, who sees the band as preserving traditional culture in the modern city. It becomes part of you.” New York itself is as much a player as any musician, transforming traditional tunes into something new. London CNN —Since ending his 15-year run as James Bond with “No Time to Die” last year, Daniel Craig has not been sitting idle. The British star has been busy brushing up his fancy footwork, which he enthusiastically showcases in a new vodka commercial directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi. Belvedere Presents Daniel Craig, Directed by Taika Waititi: Director’s CutIn the tongue-in-cheek ad for Belvedere Vodka, which premiered last week and runs for more than two minutes, Craig goes from brooding and enigmatic to swaggerlicious and even … fun. The ad opens with a white-suited Craig standing on a bridge, back to the camera, gazing moodily out at the water. The ad ends with Craig taking a drink of Belvedere and commenting “finally.” Dancing is thirsty work.

Private-equity and venture-capital investors in Byju’s, India’s most valuable startup, caught a break this week—the company isn’t listed yet. If it had been, gyrating markets seem very likely to have caused some serious vertigo. The Indian education-technology company finally released audited financial statements for the financial year ended in March 2021 on Wednesday, after an 18-month delay. Losses ballooned but revenue was nearly flat at the equivalent of $304.6 million—an unpleasant surprise since Indian edtech companies logged massive user growth when schools shut down during the pandemic.
Successful entrepreneurs often make unsuccessful investors when they sell their companies and become full-time family office chiefs instead, according to a leading family office founder. "It's humbling," said Michael Hyatt, a software entrepreneur and principal of the Hyatt Family Office. "You need to fall on your face and realize that if you're a great entrepreneur, you're likely a pretty bad investor. Hyatt, 48, co-founded and sold two software companies — Dyadem and BlueCat Networks — before launching the Hyatt Family Office in 2017. While he declined to comment on the size of the Hyatt Family Office, industry experts estimate its current assets at between $400 million to $600 million.

As the self-described "first non-engineer hire" to join Cryptovoxels, Robinson was brought on to fix these kinds of user nuisances. As part of the next rollout of features, Robinson tells me that Cryptovoxels will allow users to sell custom dances. According to Robinson, users can make money in other ways, like selling mini-game scripts and renting land for events like dances or NFT collection releases. For some reason, the Cryptovoxels world is also abundant with shrines, like the ancient Greece-inspired Frenetik Temple and the Jedi-themed Dark Junction. It's reminiscent of attending a presentation in the real world, except instead of pinning name tags to our shirts, they're superimposed over our heads in large white letters.
